Digital product sampling use cases

Send Me Some can support far more than a traditional free-sample campaign. Explore ways to launch products, gather insight, create loyalty, activate retail experiences and recover value from stock.

Customer trying a skincare product while receiving digital feedback and support prompts.

Showing 30 use cases across all categories.

Launch and research

Get a new or reformulated product into real households, and come back with structured evidence on how it performed in genuine use conditions.

New product launch

Create real trial in the launch window, before the listing has built its own momentum.

Place a new SKU with a defined consumer profile in the weeks around launch, so first reactions arrive while the brand can still act on them.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Food and beverage · Health and beauty · Household
Measurement signals
Samples delivered · Trial completion · Purchase intent · Post-trial review volume

Structured product survey

Collect comparable, quantified feedback from consumers who have actually used the product.

A defined question set is invited after trial, so responses that are given are tied to a confirmed delivery rather than to claimed usage.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Consumer health · Personal care · Research and insights
Measurement signals
Survey completion rate · Sentiment distribution · Attribute scoring · Repeat-purchase intent

Product or formulation comparison

Establish which variant performs best with the target consumer before committing to production.

Two or more variants are distributed across matched audience groups, with the same question set applied to each so results are directly comparable.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Beverages · Personal care · Nutrition
Measurement signals
Variant preference · Attribute deltas · Switching intent · Completion by group

Multi-step trial kits

Understand products that only prove themselves over a sustained usage period.

A kit is delivered with a guided multi-step journey, prompting the recipient at each stage so the brand sees how experience changes over time.

Suitable sectors
Skincare · Supplements · Haircare · Home care
Measurement signals
Step completion · Drop-off points · Change in sentiment over time · End-of-regimen intent

Packaging and proposition feedback

Test how packaging, claims and messaging land in the hands of a real consumer.

Recipients respond to the unboxing and on-pack proposition, not to a concept board — surfacing clarity, appeal and comprehension issues early.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Retail brands · Premium goods
Measurement signals
Unboxing feedback · Claim comprehension · Shelf-appeal scoring · Photo or content submissions

Acquisition and conversion

Use trial as the top of a measurable funnel: qualified reach, consented data capture, and a follow-on offer that turns a sample into a first purchase.

Targeted food and beverage trial

Drive first taste with consumers who match the buying profile, not passers-by.

Trial is concentrated on the audience segments and areas that matter commercially, with each sample linked to a consented consumer record.

Suitable sectors
Food and beverage · QSR · Retail
Measurement signals
Qualified claims · Delivery completion · Follow-on offer redemption · Purchase intent

Promotional codes and vouchers

Convert trial into a trackable first purchase.

A personalised code or voucher follows the sample, so the step from trial to transaction is measured rather than assumed.

Suitable sectors
Retail · E-commerce · Food and beverage · Services
Measurement signals
Redemption rate · Time to redemption · Basket value · Repeat purchase

Existing-database activation

Re-engage a dormant CRM base with a tangible reason to respond.

A brand's own audience is invited into the campaign, offering a route to refresh consent and add current preference data to records that had gone quiet, where consumers agree.

Suitable sectors
Retail · Financial services · Telecommunications · Subscription brands
Measurement signals
Reactivation rate · Consent refresh · Profile completeness · Downstream conversion

Conversion and retargeting campaigns

Give high-intent audiences the push that a discount alone does not deliver.

Consumers who engaged but did not buy are offered trial, turning stalled interest into a physical product experience and a second conversion window.

Suitable sectors
E-commerce · Retail · Consumer services
Measurement signals
Claim rate from retargeted audience · Post-trial conversion · Cost per converted trial

Digital offer or service trial

Extend sampling logic to non-physical products.

Access to a digital product, service tier or content offer is delivered through the same qualified, consented campaign journey.

Suitable sectors
Media · Financial services · Telecommunications · Software
Measurement signals
Activation rate · Usage within trial period · Conversion to paid · Feedback scores

Loyalty and customer experience

Sampling as a relationship instrument — welcome moments, habit building, and reasons for existing customers to stay engaged.

Subscription sampling

Give subscribers a recurring reason to value the relationship.

Samples are scheduled into the subscriber lifecycle, adding discovery to a plan the customer already pays for.

Suitable sectors
Subscription brands · Retail · Beauty · Food and beverage
Measurement signals
Churn movement · Engagement per cycle · Add-on purchase · Feedback participation

Membership or experience offers

Make a membership feel materially worth holding.

Selected members receive product or experience offers as a benefit, tied back to their membership record with consented feedback.

Suitable sectors
Loyalty programmes · Retail · Financial services · Sport and entertainment
Measurement signals
Benefit uptake · Member satisfaction · Tier retention · Repeat engagement

Customer welcome packs

Turn onboarding into a physical, memorable first impression.

New customers receive a curated pack shortly after signing up, with a guided digital follow-up that captures early experience.

Suitable sectors
Financial services · Telecommunications · Subscription brands · Insurance
Measurement signals
Onboarding completion · Early-life churn · First feedback score · Product adoption

Habit-building campaigns

Move a consumer from single trial to routine use.

A sequence of samples and prompts is spread over a defined period, supporting the repetition that habit formation needs.

Suitable sectors
Nutrition · Personal care · Household · Health
Measurement signals
Sequence completion · Usage frequency · Repeat-purchase intent · Sentiment trend

Retention and reactivation journeys

Win back customers who have drifted, with something better than another email.

At-risk or lapsed customers are offered product trial as a reactivation trigger, with response measured against a control.

Suitable sectors
Retail · Subscription brands · Telecommunications · Financial services
Measurement signals
Reactivation rate · Revenue per reactivated customer · Lapse-to-return time

Retail and live activation

Connect physical moments — stores, events, venues and travel — to a digital claim journey that is targeted, capped and measurable.

QR-enabled in-store claims

Connect a shelf or aisle moment to a measurable digital claim.

In-store material carries a claim entry point, so a physical retail presence produces consented, reportable consumer records.

Suitable sectors
Retail · FMCG · Pharmacy · Grocery
Measurement signals
Scans per location · Claim conversion · Store-level participation · Post-trial feedback

Pop-up sampling

Replace unmeasured activation tables with a tracked campaign.

A short-run pop-up drives digital claims and follow-up delivery, so the activation reports who participated and what they thought.

Suitable sectors
Retail · FMCG · Beauty · Food and beverage
Measurement signals
Participation per session · Qualified claims · Feedback completion · Cost per qualified trial

Stadium and event campaigns

Turn a large live audience into a consented, contactable base.

Event attendees enter a campaign journey on their own devices, with fulfilment handled after the event rather than in the crowd.

Suitable sectors
Sport · Entertainment · Beverages · Sponsorship
Measurement signals
Event participation rate · Opt-in volume · Post-event delivery completion · Sponsor recall

Travel and hospitality sampling

Reach consumers in high-attention travel and stay moments.

Campaigns run around airports, hotels and travel journeys, where product discovery fits naturally into the experience.

Suitable sectors
Travel · Hospitality · Duty free · Personal care
Measurement signals
Claim rate by location · Feedback participation · Purchase intent · Brand recall

Restaurant and venue offers

Drive trial of a menu item or venue product with a tracked offer.

Venue-specific offers are issued digitally and redeemed on site, linking a hospitality moment to permissioned campaign reporting.

Suitable sectors
QSR · Restaurants · Hospitality · Beverages
Measurement signals
Offer redemption · Redemption by venue · Repeat visit intent · Feedback scores

Partnerships and bundles

Share cost and reach across complementary brands, with combined boxes, bundles and insert placements that still report per brand.

Multi-product sample boxes

Increase perceived value while spreading fulfilment cost across products.

Several products travel in one box, with feedback captured per item so each product still reports on its own performance.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Beauty · Household · Retail
Measurement signals
Per-item feedback · Preferred item ranking · Cost per product trial · Overall satisfaction

Complementary brand bundles

Reach a partner's audience with a natural product pairing.

Two non-competing brands share a campaign built around a shared occasion or usage moment, with reporting split by brand.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Beauty · Food and beverage · Household
Measurement signals
Cross-brand claim rate · Attribution by brand · Pairing sentiment · Follow-on purchase

Quick-service restaurant partnerships

Use existing high-frequency ordering moments to introduce a product.

Sampling is aligned to QSR ordering journeys, so trial reaches consumers already in a consumption mindset.

Suitable sectors
QSR · Beverages · Snacks · Food and beverage
Measurement signals
Attach rate · Redemption · Repeat order lift · Feedback participation

Cross-brand campaigns

Build a themed campaign that no single brand could justify alone.

Multiple brands contribute product to a single themed campaign, sharing reach and cost while each retains its own dataset.

Suitable sectors
Retail · FMCG · Lifestyle · Seasonal campaigns
Measurement signals
Total qualified reach · Per-brand engagement · Shared cost per trial · Audience overlap

Sponsored order inserts

Place a sample inside an order the consumer is already expecting.

Samples travel with partner deliveries, adding discovery to an existing parcel and a digital follow-up for feedback.

Suitable sectors
E-commerce · Retail · Subscription brands · FMCG
Measurement signals
Insert reach · Scan-through rate · Feedback completion · Conversion from insert

Stock recovery and sustainability

Turn short-dated, seasonal or surplus stock into trial, awareness and goodwill instead of write-off and waste.

Responsible near-expiry redistribution

Convert short-dated stock into trial instead of waste, within date rules.

Eligible short-dated product is directed to consumers quickly, under campaign rules that respect shelf life and compliance requirements.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Food and beverage · Grocery · Retail
Measurement signals
Units diverted from write-off · Time to delivery · Recipient feedback · Waste avoided

Seasonal stock activation

Move end-of-season inventory while generating trial and data.

Seasonal or promotional stock is released into targeted campaigns as the season closes, recovering value that would otherwise be discounted away.

Suitable sectors
Retail · FMCG · Beverages · Seasonal brands
Measurement signals
Units activated · Claim velocity · New consumer records · Follow-on purchase

Donation campaigns

Direct surplus product to community initiatives with a clear record of what moved.

Stock is routed into agreed donation programmes, with volumes and destinations reported for governance and ESG purposes.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Retail · Food and beverage · Corporate social investment
Measurement signals
Units donated · Distribution coverage · Programme reporting · Stakeholder reach

Overstock awareness campaigns

Use surplus volume as paid-for reach instead of a balance-sheet problem.

Overstocked lines are sampled into audiences most likely to adopt them, turning excess inventory into brand awareness and consumer data.

Suitable sectors
FMCG · Retail · Household · Personal care
Measurement signals
Volume cleared · New qualified consumers · Awareness lift indicators · Purchase intent

Targeted clearance and trial

Clear specific lines in specific areas without a blanket markdown.

Clearance is focused on defined regions and audience segments, protecting price positioning while still moving stock.

Suitable sectors
Retail · FMCG · Grocery · E-commerce
Measurement signals
Units moved by region · Claim rate · Margin protection versus markdown · Repeat intent

What sampling campaigns can do

What is Send Me Some?
Send Me Some is AO Group’s digital product sampling platform and managed campaign service. It helps brands reach harder-to-reach consumers who increasingly work, shop and stream from home, and can put products in their hands in as little as 30 minutes in supported locations, from clicking on our ad. Brands can also collect agreed campaign insights, feedback and marketing permissions where consumers provide the relevant consent.
What is digital product sampling?
Digital product sampling uses digital audience targeting and online consumer journeys to place physical or digital product experiences with selected consumers, and to measure agreed campaign outcomes such as claims, delivery, feedback and follow-up engagement.
What products can be sampled?
Campaigns may support food and beverages, beauty and personal care, household products, wellness products, pet care, trial kits, vouchers and selected experiences. Product suitability and regulatory compliance are assessed during campaign planning.
What data can brands receive?
Reporting can cover audience, media response, claim activity, delivery outcomes, engagement, structured consumer feedback and agreed conversion signals. Availability depends on consumer consent, campaign configuration, the agreed data-processing model and applicable privacy law.
Something else in mind

Have a different sampling challenge?

Send Me Some campaigns can be designed around the product, audience and business objective. Campaigns can be activated across South Africa, subject to stock and fulfilment coverage.

A discovery session is a working conversation about scope, constraints and what a credible first release looks like.
