AO Group completes its own SharePoint archive migration to Azure

AO has applied its own cloud and software expertise to an internal storage challenge, delivering a controlled archive for historical business documents.
AO Group has completed the scoped migration and reconciliation of its SharePoint archive content to Microsoft Azure Blob Storage. The project brings the group’s own technology capabilities into its internal operations, with employees accessing migrated historical documents through a dedicated interface.
AO’s Group CTO confirmed completion of the migration and final reconciliation on 27 October 2026. Active collaboration files remain in SharePoint.
The project began with a business need to manage growing volumes of historical documents and address storage pressure. AO’s team designed an archive that keeps those records available through controlled employee access.

For AO, drinking our own champagne means putting our own expertise to work in the systems our people use. In this project, AO became its own customer, applying Microsoft 365 knowledge, Azure cloud engineering and custom software development to a real operational requirement.
The work brought together migration automation and verification with controlled employee access and an information-governance review. AO applied its own engineering capabilities to the business requirement and verified the completed migration.
The archive establishes a structured approach to managing historical business information while keeping SharePoint focused on active collaboration.
The completed migration milestone
Final project closeout and confirmation of recovered storage capacity and financial benefits follow the migration milestone. Those benefits remain subject to closeout work and billing review.
The project gives customers a concrete example of how AO applies its capabilities inside its own business. It also provides a reference for organisations considering SharePoint archiving, Azure migration and document lifecycle management.
