AO begins its first multi-year software programme with Currency Assist

In 2020, AO began its first multi-year software development programme with Currency Assist, a financial intermediary operating in the cryptocurrency sector. The engagement marked a significant step for AO Software: taking responsibility for the full technology stack and becoming the technology partner to a business-led customer.

The programme centred on CAMS, the Currency Assist Magic System. Its development brought together processes that involved substantial manual work, spanning customer queries, trading activity and interactions with banking systems.

The scope extended across integrations with three banks, trading systems, know-your-customer (KYC) workflows and customer support ticketing. Building the platform required senior development expertise and a detailed understanding of how these activities connected across the customer’s business.

Where suitable banking APIs were unavailable, AO developed robotic process automation as code to carry out defined steps within existing banking interfaces. These automation components were built from scratch to support the customer’s requirement to own the intellectual property in its solution.

The engagement went beyond delivering an individual software component. AO took responsibility for developing and maintaining the technology stack over a sustained programme, working with Currency Assist to translate business requirements into software and address the practical constraints of external systems.

For AO, securing the programme was an important achievement. It expanded the business’s experience in complex financial technology and established an early example of a longer-term partnership in which AO provided the technical leadership and development capacity behind a customer’s platform.
